Word Puzzles

For your enjoyment, we present two different types of word puzzle and a challenge here. The two puzzles are anagrams with a difference. In both you get two sets of seven letter words – we chose seven letters because you get seven tiles on a rack in Scrabble.

In the first group, you need to make a seven-letter word with the first set and a seven-letter word with the second set. What is more, you need to place the letters so that all the two letter words you make by placing the first word above the second word are valid. In most cases, you can deduce that if the first letter of the first word is a vowel then the first letter of the second word is a consonant and so on.

Click here for a list of all the two letter words allowed in Scrabble.

If you want some further help, you can click on the Clues button, which you will find with each problem. Here is an example to get you started.

Group 1 Example

(i) ADEEGGN
(ii) AEFILRU

The clues, if you need them, would be:

(i) Phones and couples could be me
(ii) Nobody wants to be me.

The solution is:

ENGAGED
FAILURE

The challenge referred to above is to find the maximum score achieveable in a game of scrabble. You can assume it is a solo game or two players in collusion to make the highest overall score. Why not try it?
